With 2018 in the rear view mirror, Richland Library is looking back over the last year at what was trending among our library card holders.
To compile our "best-of" lists, we took the top 10 movie titles that our customers checked out or downloaded in 2018. They were as follows:
1. Despicable Me 3
2. Wonder
3. The Dark Tower
4. Logan
5. The Mountain between Us
6. Thor: Ragnarok
7. Detroit
8. The Foreigner
9. American Assassin
10. The Hitman's Bodyguard
Having access to check out movies, especially the latest releases, is right up my alley. I am not an avid movie-goer, so I wait for a movie to be released on DVD. That way, I can take it home and watch it on my schedule. It also helps that I can pause in the middle of the movie for bathroom breaks or really scary, intense parts where I might need to decompress.
Looking back at the most popular movies in 2018, I only matched with one, but it was the most checked-out item of the year.
- Yes, I am a 30-something-year-old who watched Despicable Me 3.
- No, I don't have kids to blame it on.
- Yes, I loved it!
There is something about this animated, family-friendly series that is captivating and just funny. When watching, it makes you feel like a kid again - at least for 1 hour and 29 minutes.
In this latest installment, Gru is balancing life with his new family while trying to figure out who he is, professionally. Then a big surprise emerges. He learns about having a long-lost brother who wants to become a despicably evil villain, just as Gru was a few years back. The adventure takes off from there and includes all of your favorite characters.
I find myself laughing at whatever the minions do or say, and I can't wait to hear Agnes talk about her unicorn. "It's so fluffy. I'm going to die!"
It really is the perfect flick to put on Friday night with the family. You can sit back, relax, enjoy the popcorn and don't forget the box of Sour Patch Kids.
