Remember when summers were full of outdoor fun, leisure reading, popsicles, and nightly sitcoms? When I try to explain to my kids that tv shows used air during scheduled slots and that you could not "On Demand" or stream them, they stare at me blankly. Back when you had to be in front of the tv to watch the season finale or you were out of luck until a possible re-run....someday? Those were the days.
People who know me know I'm usually only watching retro tv. 70's game shows, 80's Unsolved Mysteries episodes, and retro sitcoms. These shows are my Calgon (Take Me Away!) - I even spent a whole year watching all 14 seasons of Dallas because it brought back so many good feelings of childhood. I have a Mary Tyler Moore tattoo (even though people always confuse it with That Girl) because Mary Tyler Moore episodes are my go-to for stressful days.
The other day I was shelving DVDs (Remember those? Yes! We have them!) and I saw all of my old "friends" on the shelves. While some retro shows are available for streaming, many or not. YouTube is a good source; however, it is not always a comprehensive list. I invite you to find some of your own Calgon (Take Me Away!) this summer by re-visiting your old "friends" too. Take advantage of your library card and check-out some retro favorites.
